Wings of Might
by Daniel Basden - U.S. Army©2003
Wings of might that soar through the darkness of night,
Representing a Nation so independent and so free.
Oppressed by foreign lands he is not.
Watching over the land, while we sleep,
Master of the night, the night he does keep.
Our protector and guardian, during the day,
Watching the little children out at play.
One September Day, a tear filled his eyes,
A tear his eyes had never seen before.
His Nation was on the brink of war.
Sorrowful though he might be,
He still must fly o'er the land of the free.
Proud he was when many answered the call,
"let's defend this land, come one, come all!"
Now he flies not only over our skies,
But over foreign skies as well.
Protecting our men and women from the damnation of hell.
Yet there is still a tear in his eye,
To defend our freedom many had to die.
But, he is still proud, because everyone that gave their life,
Did not give it in strife.
Fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters,
They gave their lives willingly defending our Nation, His Nation.
For you see these are not tears of sorrow,
They are tears of pride and happiness.
Only a pride and happiness that only those who gave their lives can know.
Just remember when he flies overhead,
He is the symbol of a Nation so strong and powerful.
"One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

"After serving 6 months in Iraq and a total of 5 years in the Army,
I really do appreciate your site and the tribute you make to
the men and women of our Armed Forces.
~ Thanks, Daniel." |
